Neighborhood Planning Process…
This came as
an alternative to things created by groups such as UNOP
and CRM.
The
people-invested neighborhood planning process, energized
through legislations
authored by
Cynthia, allowed citizens across New Orleans to package
their proposals
for their
ideas to rebuild our city. A few of these proposals
realized include:
• St. Anthony
Bike Path
• Freret
Street Market Expansion
• Mid-City
Library
• Shopping
Center –Carrollton at Washington
Citizen Inspired Initiatives…
Sparked by
city resources made available by Councilwoman
Willard-Lewis’ funding
legislation,
neighborhoods have been inspired to reclaim—from
Hurricane
Katrina—the
abandoned spaces, the open lots across the city, with
her Lot Next Door
program.
Citizen Planned Neighborhoods…
Cynthia
continues to champion neighborhood empowerment, working
with groups
across the
city. Organized and re-organized Neighborhood
Associations remain 98%
active, with
newsletters and websites.
Cynthia beat the odds and WON…
She was
successful in fighting the plan to shrink the footprint
of one of America’s
historic
cities.
Convening the Council’s Recovery Committee…
Cynthia has
and continues to push the City Administration as well as
State and
Federal
official on issues including:
• Demolition
• Debris
Removal
• Category 5
Levees
• Road Home
